Electronic conferences (e-conferences) are organised by BioStrat before each European Platform for Biodiversity Research Strategy (EPBRS) meeting. Such e-conferences have been organised since the 2001 EPBRS meeting in Sweden. For access to all past e-conference proceedings please access the following links: http://www.edinburgh.ceh.ac.uk/biota/bioplatform_page.htm and http://www.edinburgh.ceh.ac.uk/biota/BioStrat_page.htm

BioStrat e-conferences are usually held 5 to 6 weeks before the EPBRS meeting and cover the same topic as the meeting. Each e-conference announcement will be posted on this website well in advance of the e-conference start both on this page and under the News section. We greatly appreciate any help in disseminating the e-conference announcement to any colleagues you feel might be interested in taking part.

You need to be registered on the WebBoard to take part in the e-conference. To register, please visit the WebBoard homepage: http://forums.ceh.ac.uk:8080/~biostrat/login. If you encounter any difficulties registering in this way please do not hesitate to email Fiona Grant on fian@ceh.ac.uk. For full guidelines on how to use the WebBoard for reading or posting messages please visit the following website: http://www.edinburgh.ceh.ac.uk/biota/guidelines_to_contributors.htm

E-conferences usually last for three weeks, thereby allowing for maximum input from all participants. The importance of electronic conferences in the EPBRS process is the fact that they are open to all researchers, science policy makers, environmental policy makers, and even the public are welcomed to make comments and suggest research priorities on the topics discussed. This direct access ensures the widest possible stakeholder input to the further development of the European Biodiversity Research Strategy.

At the end of all electronic conferences a full report of the e-conference is provided by the editorial team, including a preliminary set of recommendations for the EPBRS delegates to consider. A summary report of the electronic conferences is presented at a plenary session during the EPBRS meeting and, together with the national research reviews and plenary lectures, form the basis of discussions during EPBRS meetings.

If you have any further questions regarding the e-conference please do not hesitate to contact Fiona Grant (fian@ceh.ac.uk).
